Functional description
To understand the molecular mechanisms of STARD13 3'-UTR- mediated cellular apoptosis, miRNA binding sites were predicted in the 3'-UTRs of STARD13 and Fas and nine common miRNAs were identified to bind to the 3'-UTRs of STARD13 and Fas. Thus we assumed that STARD13 3'-UTR could act as a ceRNA for Fas. The hypothesis was further tested by confirming that STARD13 3'-UTR modulates Fas expression in a miRNA- and 3'-UTR-dependent way.
