| Also known as | Note: MBP (Gene ID: 4155) and MBL2 (Gene ID: 4153) share the MBP symbol/alias in common. MBP is a widely used alternative name for mannose binding lectin 2 (MBL2), which can be confused with the official symbol for MBP (myelin basic protein, GeneID 4155). [01 Jun 2018] |

| Title | PURIFICATION OF IMMUNOLOGICALLY ACTIVE RECOMBINANT 21.5 kDa ISOFORM OF HUMAN MYELIN BASIC PROTEIN |
| Expression | up-regulation |
| Risk type | Disease risk |
| Result | the results presented here demonstrate the expression and purification of immunologically active recombinant MBP21.5. Like naturally-derived MBP, recombinant MBP21.5 can be processed by APCs with various antigenic epitopes displayed to human T cells |
| Mechanism/Pathway | The recombinant molecules were purified in two steps, first by reversedphase chromatographic separation and then by metal affinity chromatography. Dimeric forms of recombinant MBP21.5 were detected under physiological conditions, however, substitution of a serine for the single cysteine at amino acid residue 8f resulted in only monomer fo~ation. All forms of recombinant MBPs induced proliferative responses of human T lymphocytes specific for epitopes in MBP18.5 kDa. In contrast, human T cell lines that recognize an exon 2-encoded epitope of MBP responded to the 21.5 kDa isoform of MBP, but not the 18.5 kDa isoform |
