Literature information of multiple sclerosis :

Pubmed ID 7903488
Year 1993
Title Multiple sclerosis in the Faroe Islands VI. Studies of HLA markers

Results of multiple sclerosis :

Risk Type Disease risk
Main Result Negative
Result whereas the class I1 antigens do deviate: 50% of the Faroese MS patients carry the HLA-DR2 (DQI lDRB 15) antigen, compared to a frequency of 15-2ou/0 among the control groups.
Mechanism/Pathway The occurrence of CNMS in these epidemics seems therefore associated to HLA class II-linked genetic factors similar to those found in studies of other Caucasians with MS. This observation seems important in understanding the pathogenesis of this disease
